Good site work is critical to any parking surface. While the paving might look good for a year or two, the true quality of the job becomes evident a few years down the road. Take the Costco in Matthews as one example.
We were asked to address work performed by a previous contractor. Due to the original contractor’s inferior work on the subgrade, the store’s parking lot and other traffic areas had begun to suffer. Our paving expertise came into play. To ensure no inconvenience to customers or freight deliveries, we sectioned the paving area into twelve discrete zones. Initially, our scope was a 1.5-inch mill and overlay with minimal full-depth replacement in strategic areas. However, we quickly discovered problems with the subgrade, unsuitable soil, and water saturation issues; we recommended underdrains in critical areas of the parking lot to tie into the existing storm system.
Despite a change in scope, the repaving was completed on time with almost no disruption to operations or customer traffic. Just as importantly, the store now has a parking area that will stand the forces of erosion for a long time to come. All because we build things that last.
