Costco Depot Expansion Complete

Costco Depot Expansion Complete

Neither snow nor sleet keeps SEI from getting the job done. The proof? Our recent completion of Costco’s depot expansion in Aurora, Colorado.

Begun in August, 2021, this project has added 277,500 sf to an already huge facility. With 150,000 sf for e-commerce or online fulfillment, 67,500 sf for cold storage, and 60,000 dedicated to dry goods, Costco can now serve even more stores and members throughout the region.

According to Bryan Weatherford, Project Manager, there were plenty of challenges to be met. “Winter in Colorado means less than ideal conditions for building. But we figured out ways to combat the weather conditions and maintain schedule. As just one example, we used glycol ground heaters that allowed us to keep frost out of the ground. In turn, that allowed us to continue concrete and asphalt paving.”

While portions of landscaping, wear surface, and lot striping remain to be finished due to winter weather and low temperatures, our efficiency earned a warm response from Costco.

“The client was extremely pleased to meet a tight deadline for completion,” Weatherford adds. That allowed them to relocate from a leased property and utilize their new space for maximum efficiency.”

That’s because SEI relies on a problem-solving mentality to handle anything Old Man Winter lobs our way.

“It was a huge team effort, from Kenny Noah all the way down. Our field staff was resolute when it came to schedule management and implementation of cold weather countermeasures. That teamwork and coordination was key for pulling it across the finish line.”

Thanks to Costco for its continued faith in SEI. We’re excited to play our role in your growth—no matter what the conditions might be.
